In one with Nature

This was written on request. This wonderful picture was taken by a Nataraj Vemuri.

The waves rush forward, in hurry to meet the shore, to feel the warm skin of land. They come with a roar of jubilation and excitement of finally getting to meet the one they have traveled so far for.   It is amidst this celebration that man walks along the shore, witness to the call of the sea. His feelings however are not so loud or speaking. He feels a certain calm, a tranquil feeling of being transported to another world where no ugliness scars the human feeling. Many have experienced walking on the beach, have even been aware of the pleasure when their feel sinks into the soft damp sand. How many have stopped to extend that sense? The waves continue, the sun shines, the breeze fans, the water licks on touch as it happens every day. Then there are those days, almost spiritual, where the human soul is impatient to leave the mundane and join the extraordinary. It is the same waves, sun, breeze, water or anything everyday that triggers the soul to escape from its chains to embrace the world that is pure and innocent. One becomes, even for the briefest of moments, in part with nature.

#29NaPoWriMo: An ode to Her

If you had stuck with me for this year’s NaPoWriMo you probably noticed my poems were inspired by Nature. This is one more poem in honor of her.

This world is a complex ball
and living in it is the hardest of all.
When things get crazy
drop everything for a moment
and  run,
run far away from it
and jump into her open arms.
The worry is there
the fight must still go on
but for a few minutes
time stands still so
that you can take a deep breath
and she can calm you down.
You don’t believe me?
Sounds unreal, doesn’t it?
Which is why you should try it once.

#16NaPoWriMo:Mère Nature

Day wakes me up
the breeze nudging me
whispering promises for the day.
I stretch, yawn and
look around.

Today my mother is calm,
the sky is not broken
the leaves are peaceful
and the birds sing.
I whip my brushy tail around
and scramble to the top of my tree.
There, my food grows.

My mother always looks after me.

#13NaPoWriMo: Stilness of Nature

For Fatema. Happy Birthday!

Amidst the uproar
even in the turmoil of existence,
unrest among creatures, also
the incessant waves,
alongside the earth’s dance-
its rotation and turns
there is a stillness of nature.

Kudrat Ki Khamoshi

Dawn holds her broom and starts to sweep the darkness off giving way to a well-rested day light looking fresh in his mild attire.  Children of nature rise to greet the advent of day as the sun rises in this part of the world leaving the other half in sleep.
Hours will roll by, some rushing into the other, few crawling slowly seemingly not wanting to meet the next one.  After the gentle touch of morning light, the sunshine turns to brilliance. Seated above our heads, like a king ruling over his people, he, the sun, unleashes his full light for the day on the world.
Even the mighty sun has to follow the flow of nature and in time, he starts to descend gradually into evening.
A deep red orange blush spread in the evening sky, giving the onlooker a feeling of an aurora stuck in time. Like a day’s memories, stripes of pale blue remain. Mixing in the dusk light but soon to be erased with the brush of night. The hue of twilight coats human buildings and trees like how the soft flush of a candle flame does on the objects within its circle. Soon the colors will roll into a grey shadow, taken over by the onset of night.
Lightning flashes across the sky as if to challenge the darkness that has taken over. Soon a thunderclap resounds in the sky. The voice of nature. And in the next phase the skies break cascading the rains on us, drenching all that it can touch.
Nothing about Nature is constant, everything about her is always shifting and changing but yet in all the movements there is in her a stillness. A hush that surrounds her amidst the uproars.  It is a silence only a soul that has come to love her can hear. The quiescence resonating in the heart and mind.
Kudrath Ki Khamoshi- The stillness of nature.

Words of a Poet

Nature, our mother, asks man, “If there was something you would give me what would it be?”

The soldier says, “My life.”
The farmer says, “My service. I shall take care of your riches.”
The poet says, “Words, for that is my greatest treasure.”
